The horror-comedy film Ready or Not is getting a sequel, with lead actress Samara Weaving reprising her role. The original film, which became a hit in 2019, featured Weaving as a bride forced to play a deadly game on her wedding night.
The sequel, titled Ready or Not 2, will be produced by Radio Silence, the team behind the first film. This includes directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, along with executive producer Chad Villella. The film will be distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
In Ready or Not, Weaving’s character, Grace, marries into the wealthy Le Domas family. During a family tradition, she draws the short straw and must play a lethal game of Hide and Seek, which is tied to a dark pact made by her in-laws. The original film was made on a modest budget of $6 million but grossed over $57 million worldwide, earning critical acclaim for its mix of horror and social commentary.
Writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy are returning for the sequel, but plot details have not yet been revealed. Producers Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt will also be involved in the project.
The announcement of the sequel was made during a screening of the original film. Weaving has expressed her excitement about returning to the role, stating she is “all in” for the sequel.
While fans are eager for more of Grace’s story, some have questioned whether a sequel is necessary given the original’s strong conclusion.
However, anticipation remains high for what Ready or Not 2 will bring.
As production moves forward, Radio Silence aims to capture the same blend of humor and horror that made the first film a success. A release date for the sequel has not yet been announced.
