Jordan Lutes, known by his stage name Jutes, recently shared the emotional details of his proposal to Demi Lovato. During an appearance on The Viall Files podcast on October 10, he recounted how he nearly broke down in tears while asking the pop star to marry him.
The 33-year-old musician reflected on the special moment, describing how he had prepared to propose to Lovato, 31, and the challenges he faced leading up to it. “I wrote a song,” Jutes explained. “I’m not a guitar player, but I can play a few chords. It took me about a week just to put those chords together and then write the song. I practiced it over and over.”
The song, which concluded with the words “Will you marry me?” was a crucial part of Jutes’ proposal. However, he admitted it was not easy to perform. “Playing it on the guitar was tough. I messed up three out of four times while practicing, and I just hoped I’d get it right when it mattered,” he said. “I definitely almost broke down crying a few times.”
Jutes took extra measures to surprise Lovato, asking her team to distract her with fake engagements before he finally got down on one knee. He felt confident about her answer, as the couple had talked about marriage on several occasions.
The pair’s love story began in January 2022, when they collaborated on Lovato’s song “Substance.” They went public with their relationship in August 2022 and made their red carpet debut as a couple in February 2023. By December, Jutes had proposed with a stunning pear-shaped diamond ring in Los Angeles.
Lovato has been open about her affection for Jutes, praising him as a supportive and loving partner. In a recent interview with People, she shared, “I’ve waited my whole life for him, and having him as part of my journey makes everything that much sweeter.” She also emphasized how he helps her stay grounded, adding that he treats her “amazingly.”
Social media has been a platform for the couple to express their affection for each other. For Lovato’s 30th birthday in August, Jutes shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, mentioning that making her laugh helps ease his depression. Lovato responded, calling him “the best boyfriend in the world.”
The couple has also shared glimpses of their life together through various celebrations. For Halloween 2022, they dressed as a zombie bride and groom and visited a haunted house in New Orleans. During Christmas Eve, they celebrated at Disneyland, where they were seen sharing a kiss in front of the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle, adorned in festive lights.
Their journey from collaboration to a loving, committed relationship has been marked by public displays of affection and shared moments, showing just how deeply they care for one another.
