Roger Taylor, the drummer of Queen, has hinted at the possibility of new music from the legendary band, nearly 30 years after their last studio album.
Queen released their final studio album, Made In Heaven, in 1995, following the death of iconic frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991. Since then, the band has seen various lead vocalists, beginning with Paul Rodgers in 2004 and later Adam Lambert, who joined in 2011. Lambert recently toured with the band on their massive Rhapsody Tour, which wrapped up in Tokyo in February.
In October 2022, Queen shared a previously unreleased track featuring Mercury’s vocals titled Face It Alone. In a recent interview with Uncut, Taylor was asked about the potential for new Queen material. “I think we might,” he replied.
Taylor explained that he and guitarist Brian May recently discussed the idea, saying, “If we feel we have some good material, why not? We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not.”
Last year, May revealed that the band had “dabbled a little” in creating new music with Lambert, but noted that fans had yet to hear any of it. “It would have to be something so special that we would feel we would want to launch it to the public,” he said.
Lambert acknowledged the challenges of releasing new music with Queen, stating, “If they’re going to put something out that’s new, it’s got to be at a certain level.” He added, “I feel like it scares me,” questioning whether it’s appropriate for him to be involved in new material.
In other news, May’s wife, Anita Dobson, provided an update on the guitarist after he recently suffered a “minor stroke.”
Currently, Queen does not have any live concerts scheduled. However, Queen Extravaganza, the official tribute band, will embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Additionally, Queen has announced a newly mixed, mastered, and expanded reissue of their self-titled debut album from 1973.
