A new documentary chronicling The Beatles’ iconic 1964 trip to America is on the way, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi. Titled Beatles ’64, the film is scheduled for release on Disney+ on November 29.
Beatles ’64 features previously unseen footage of the band and their dedicated fans during the height of Beatlemania. It also includes new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two surviving members of the legendary group.
The documentary captures McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Starr as they arrive in New York City in February 1964, solidifying their status as the world’s biggest band. The film promises to offer “a more intimate behind-the-scenes story” of The Beatles, highlighting their historic debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, which attracted over 73 million viewers and was the most-watched television event at the time.
Beatles ’64 will feature rare footage filmed by documentarians Albert and David Maysles, which has been restored in 4K by Park Road Post in New Zealand.
In addition to Scorsese, the film is produced by Margaret Bodde, McCartney, Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley, with Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn serving as executive producers.
This marks Scorsese’s second exploration of The Beatles’ legacy. In 2011, he directed George Harrison: Living in the Material World, a documentary focused on the life of the famed guitarist and his experiences in India. Scorsese has also directed music documentaries about Bob Dylan and The Band.
On November 22, just a week before Beatles ’64 premieres, seven American Beatles albums will be reissued in a vinyl collection titled The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums in Mono.
This boxed set includes albums that have not been available on vinyl since 1995, featuring titles such as Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles’ Second Album, A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track), Something New, The Beatles’ Story (2LP), Beatles ’65, and The Early Beatles.
