Prime Video has released an action-packed trailer for “Citadel: Honey Bunny,” the Indian version of the “Citadel” spy franchise, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha.
The series is directed and produced by the well-known duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, collectively known as Raj & DK. They also co-wrote the screenplay with Sita R. Menon.
Their previous work, “The Family Man,” which featured Samantha in its second season, was a major hit for Prime Video.
Set to debut globally on November 7, “Citadel: Honey Bunny” is produced by Raj & DK’s D2R Films, Amazon MGM Studios, and AGBO, the production company founded by the Russo brothers. Executive producers for the series include Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes from AGBO, and David Weil.
The series is set in the 1990s and follows Bunny (played by Dhawan), a stuntman, and Honey (played by Samantha), a struggling actress, as they become embroiled in the world of espionage. The cast also features Kay Kay Menon, Simran, and Saqib Saleem.
Raj & DK commented on the significance of this project, stating, “’Citadel: Honey Bunny’ has allowed us to be part of a larger world of spies and espionage that is unprecedented. While we have created our own projects, this is our first collaboration with the Russo Brothers and many talented filmmakers from around the world, making this a valuable creative experience.”
Nikhil Madhok, head of originals at Prime Video India, praised the series, noting, “Raj & DK have infused their unique style and charm into this high-octane spy thriller, promising audiences a thrilling ride.”
Dhawan discussed his role, saying, “Bunny is unlike any character I’ve played before. As a spy, he leads a double life with two distinct sides to his personality, which was exciting for me as an actor. Portraying him required a blend of experiences from past roles, along with physical and mental preparation for the intense stunts and action scenes, making it one of my most challenging performances.”
Samantha expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Being part of an action-packed entertainer with a gripping story, deep characters, and international-standard stunts drew me to this project. The challenges of bringing Honey to life have had a profound impact on me, making it one of the most significant roles of my career.”
“Citadel: Honey Bunny” follows the success of the original “Citadel” series, which starred Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas and became Prime Video’s second most-watched new original series outside the U.S. The franchise also includes an Italian series titled “Citadel: Diana,” with more international versions in development.
