Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that its streaming service, Max, will debut in seven Southeast Asian territories next month.
Starting November 19, Max will be available in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
The service will offer various subscription plans, with detailed pricing expected to be released in the coming weeks. Prices will differ by country and provider. In Indonesia and the Philippines, mobile-only plans will be available, as well as through select providers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Currently, Warner Bros. Discovery operates the HBO Go streaming service in parts of East Asia. Max aims to provide a more advanced technology platform and a broader selection of content. The platform has already launched in North America and several other international regions, positioning itself as a “brand new streaming experience” that offers blockbuster movies, innovative series, beloved classics, engaging real-life shows, and family favorites. Max first entered the Asian market at the end of September by integrating its interface within Japan’s U-Next streaming platform.
Subscribers to Max can create up to five unique profiles, each customizable. The service will recommend content based on viewing habits and include curated profiles for kids, featuring age-appropriate content and parental controls.
Max will carry a variety of entertainment brands, including HBO, Cartoon Network, Max Originals, Discovery, TLC, AFN, Food Network, ID, and HGTV. Notable content franchises include “Harry Potter” and the DC Universe.
“Following successful launches in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, Asia Pacific marks the next phase of Max’s expansion, bringing the service to over 72 markets with more to come in 2025,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Warner Bros. Discovery has a long history of entertaining fans across the Asia Pacific with popular content from our leading brands. For the first time, this programming will be available through a new streaming app tailored for regional audiences, providing an incredible range of content and a top-tier viewing experience,” added James Gibbons, president at Warner Bros. Discovery, APAC.
