Jake E. Lee, known for his work as Ozzy Osbourne’s former guitarist, was shot multiple times in Las Vegas early Tuesday morning. According to his representative, Lee is currently recovering and is expected to make a full recovery. The guitarist, who gained fame for his contributions to bands like Badlands and Red Dragon Cartel, is conscious and being treated in the intensive care unit at a Las Vegas hospital.
Authorities in Las Vegas believe the incident was a random act of violence. Lee was reportedly out walking his dog when the shooting took place. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released. Lee’s representative has requested privacy for the musician and his family during this time, stating, “Lee and his family appreciate respecting their privacy at this time.”
Jake E. Lee, originally from San Diego, made a name for himself in the Los Angeles metal scene during the early 1980s. He played in bands like Ratt and Rough Cutt before joining forces with Ozzy Osbourne in 1983. Lee secured the role as Osbourne’s guitarist, edging out his friend and former roommate George Lynch, who would later become the guitarist for Dokken.
Taking over after the tragic death of Randy Rhoads, Osbourne’s original guitarist, was not easy. Rhoads had played on Osbourne’s first two solo albums before he died in a plane crash in 1982. Despite facing some criticism from fans initially, Lee persevered and contributed significantly to Osbourne’s albums “Bark at the Moon” and “The Ultimate Sin,” co-writing many tracks. However, his tenure with Osbourne ended abruptly in 1987 when he was fired by Sharon Osbourne, Osbourne’s wife and manager—a common fate for many band members at the time.
In 1988, Lee went on to form Badlands with Ray Gillen, a singer known for his late stint with Black Sabbath. The band remained active into the 1990s, but its run ended after Gillen passed away in 1993. Over the years, Lee played with various other bands and released solo projects. In 2013, he founded Red Dragon Cartel, releasing two albums with the group. However, Lee has recently been dealing with hand issues, which has affected his ability to perform frequently.
The music community has been shocked by the incident, and fans are sending well wishes for Lee’s recovery as the investigation continues.
