In a quick turn of events, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has slipped to second place on Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 movie list, making way for the film it initially dethroned: Deadpool and Wolverine.
Despite its R-rating, Deadpool and Wolverine has garnered significant popularity, thanks to its impressive $1.3 billion box office earnings. While Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also performed well, rumors suggest that a third installment in the franchise, likely titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, may be on the horizon.
The rest of the Top 10 list features films that are now available at lower rental prices. Despicable Me 4 is currently renting for $6, and Twisters is priced at $10. In contrast, Deadpool and Wolverine remains at $25 for rent and $30 for purchase, leading some to consider buying instead of renting.
At number five is Alien Romulus, which has received positive reviews and is the highest-rated installment since the franchise’s first two films. Interestingly, The Wild Robot, a highly acclaimed children’s film, debuted at number nine. Given its reception as the best kids’ movie of the year, it is expected to rise in rankings as more viewers discover it. The film was released for streaming yesterday.
Trap, occupying the tenth spot, is a nearly bloodless horror movie that has not received the recognition it deserves from critics. Many believe that M. Night Shyamalan’s latest work showcases Josh Hartnett’s performance, which warrants an Oscar nomination, despite the likelihood of it not happening.
With its status as the second highest-grossing movie of the year—only behind Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which earned $1.69 billion—Deadpool and Wolverine is likely to remain a staple in the top three for the foreseeable future. In comparison, Despicable Me 4 has grossed $961 million, while Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has made $422 million, positioning it firmly within the top ten.
Curiously, Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the $1 billion original, is languishing at number 20 with $165 million, marking a significant disappointment for the franchise.
