The music world mourns the loss of Liam Payne, a former member of One Direction, who reportedly died at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tributes from fans and fellow artists flooded in on Wednesday evening.
Payne first entered the music scene in 2008 when he competed on “The X Factor.” He returned to the show in 2010, this time alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. The group finished third but was quickly signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, leading to the formation of One Direction. The band became one of the most successful boy bands in history, selling over 70 million records worldwide from 2010 to 2016. They produced numerous chart-topping hits, including “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Night Changes,” and “Story of My Life.” After the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016, Payne launched his solo career, debuting with “Strip That Down” in 2017 and releasing his first album, “LP1,” in 2019.
Charlie Puth expressed his shock and sadness on Instagram, stating, “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he’s gone. I am so upset right now; may he rest in peace.”
Rapper Ty Dolla Sign also shared his grief on Instagram, saying, “Just talked to you 2 days ago, my guy. Ima miss u frfr,” along with a video of Payne.
Paris Hilton posted on X, “So upsetting to hear the news of [Liam Payne] passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend.”

DJ Zedd expressed his disbelief and sorrow on X, writing, “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking.” He added, “Life is short and fragile… You never know what people are going through. We live in times where being rude, divisive, and mean is normal; sometimes even celebrated. It doesn’t have to be this way. We should do our best to be kind, supportive, and mindful.”
