Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, graced the opening night of the off-Broadway revival of Hold On To Me Darling on Wednesday. The event took place at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in Manhattan’s West Village. This production is directed by Tony-nominated Neil Pepe.
Adam Driver stars as Strings McCrane, a country music icon facing challenges after his mother’s death, in this tragicomedy written by Kenneth Lonergan. The play runs for a limited 13-week engagement and features a cast that includes Heather Burns, Adelaide Clemens, Keith Nobbs, CJ Wilson, and Frank Wood.
Rita Wilson, who will turn 68 in ten days, first met Driver while guest-starring in HBO’s Girls, where she played Evie, the mother of Marnie Michaels, portrayed by Allison Williams. Driver gained recognition for his role as Adam Sackler in the series.
For the opening, Wilson wore a stylish black sweater with shoulder belt detailing and baggy leather pants. In addition to her recent theater appearance, she will have a mystery role in her former Girls co-star Lena Dunham’s upcoming comedy series Too Much, which premieres next year on Netflix. The ensemble cast features Megan Stalter, Will Sharpe, Emily Ratajkowski, Richard E. Grant, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Andrew Rannells, Janicza Bravo, Rhea Perlman, and Stephen Fry.
Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner, is set to attend the world premiere of Robert Zemeckis’ single-room drama Here on October 25 at the TCL Chinese Theatre during AFI Fest. This film reunites him with his Forrest Gump director and co-stars Robin Wright. The movie utilizes AI technology called Metaphysic Live to portray the characters at different ages.
Here, based on Richard McGuire’s 1989 graphic novel, spans a century and runs for 104 minutes. It will be released in US theaters on November 1 and in UK theaters on January 17, 2025. The film also features Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Dockery.
In addition to these projects, Hanks will portray Leland in Wes Anderson’s 2025 spy comedy The Phoenician Scheme, which stars Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, Bill Murray, Riz Ahmed, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson.
