Hulu has secured the rights to stream the holiday comedy “Nutcrackers,” starring Ben Stiller, exclusively in the U.S. starting November 29.
Directed by David Gordon Green, known for his work on the “Halloween” franchise and comedies like “Pineapple Express,” the film follows Mike, portrayed by Stiller. Mike is a serious and career-focused man who unexpectedly becomes a caregiver for his lively orphaned nephews. The cast also features Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Toby Huss. The nephews are played by real-life siblings Homer, Ulysses, Atlas, and Arlo Janson. The film was shot on the Janson family farm in Ohio and at their dance studio, inspired by their family.
“Nutcrackers” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September and is set to be available on Disney+ internationally soon. Indiewire praised the film for its heartfelt approach, highlighting Green’s ability to blend talented young performers with genuine warmth in a rural setting.
The film was fully financed by Rivulet Films, with producers Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, and Nate Meyer from Rough House. The script was developed by Rough House alongside writer Leland Douglas. The worldwide sales rights are represented by UTA Independent Film Group.
