TrustNordisk has secured international distribution rights for “My Brother,” a four-part mystery thriller produced by Filmlance International, part of the Banijay Group. Filmlance is known for successful crime dramas such as “The Bridge” and “Fallen,” as well as the family epic “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter.” Filming for the series, which will air on SVT, is scheduled to start in February 2025 in Norrbotten, Sweden’s northernmost county, with an expected delivery date in winter 2025.
“My Brother” is described as a northern Western and is based on the debut novel by bestselling author Karin Smirnoff. The novel is part of the Jana Kippo trilogy, which has been sold to multiple countries, including the U.K., Italy, and Germany. Smirnoff is also the author of the latest Millennium novel, “The Cry of the Sea Eagle.” The screenplay is adapted by Karin Arrhenius, known for her work on “Blackwater” and “Rebecca Martinsson: Arctic Murders,” while Sanna Lenken, who directed “Thin Blue Line” and “Pressure Point,” will helm the project.
Susan Wendt, managing director of TrustNordisk, expressed excitement about the series, stating, “We are eager to introduce this deeply emotional and gripping story. It captures the essence of its bestselling novel and challenges viewers to explore the complexities of family, memory, love, and hate.” The plot centers on Jana Kippo, who returns to the fictional town of Smalånger to help her troubled twin brother. She becomes entangled in the mysterious death of his great love, Maria, who was allegedly killed by a man Jana falls for. This forces Jana to confront painful memories from her past.
The lead role will be played by Amanda Jansson, alongside Jakob Öhrman and Rasmus Johansson.
Director Sanna Lenken commented on her collaboration with the cast: “I’m deeply grateful to work with Amanda, Jakob, and Rasmus. They displayed remarkable courage during their auditions. We aim to delve into Smirnoff’s characters and portray their vulnerability and strength.”
The series is produced by Anna Wallmark of Filmlance, in co-production with SVT and Filmpool Nord. TrustNordisk is also promoting the series at Mipcom, alongside other notable projects such as the Danish crime show “Off the Record” and the Norwegian thriller “The Fortress,” which recently won best screenplay at Series Mania and was featured by The New York Times as one of the top shows to watch this summer.
