Ringo Starr has officially announced the release of his upcoming country music album, titled “Look Up,” set to debut on January 10, 2025. The album, produced and co-written by T Bone Burnett, features 11 original tracks recorded this year in Nashville and Los Angeles.
Of the 11 songs, nine were either written or co-written by Burnett. One song was penned by Billy Swan, while another was co-written by Starr and Bruce Sugar. Throughout the album, Starr contributed his vocals and drumming, co-writing the closing track “Thankful.” Burnett enlisted a roster of notable Americana artists for the project, including Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Molly Tuttle, and Alison Krauss.
Starr’s passion for country music has been evident throughout his distinguished career. The idea for this new album arose from a chance encounter with Burnett at an event in Los Angeles in 2022. During that meeting, Starr asked Burnett to write a song for an EP he was working on. Burnett responded with nine country-themed songs, inspiring Starr to create “Look Up,” his first full-length album since 2019.
“I’ve always loved country music,” Starr said. “When I asked T Bone to write me a song, I didn’t even think it would be a country song—but it was, and it was beautiful.”
Burnett expressed his admiration for Starr, stating, “I have loved Ringo Starr and his playing and singing for as long as I can remember. He changed the way every drummer after him played with his inventive approach. Making this music with him was like realizing a 60-year dream. This album is my way of thanking him for all he has given us.”
