NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution has announced the sale of its thriller series, “The Day of the Jackal,” starring Eddie Redmayne, to nearly 200 territories worldwide. The show premiered in the U.K. on Tuesday in London.
The series garnered significant attention during the L.A. Screenings in May, leading to a surge in global interest from buyers.
Notably, the sales do not include the U.S., where Peacock has the rights, nor the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, where Sky holds the rights. Among the international buyers are Foxtel’s Binge and Showcase channel in Australia, Corus’ Showcase and StackTV in Canada, Amazon Prime Video in France, and JioCinema in India.
Other buyers include Wowow in Japan, TVNZ in New Zealand, Wavve in South Korea, and OSN in the UAE and MENA region. SkyShowtime will stream the series across multiple European territories.
In “The Day of the Jackal,” Redmayne plays a highly skilled assassin known as the Jackal. Following a high-profile hit, he faces off against a determined British intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch. Their thrilling cat-and-mouse chase unfolds across Europe, leaving chaos in its wake.
The series will premiere in the U.S. on Peacock on November 14, launching with the first five episodes, followed by weekly episodes and a double-episode finale on December 12. In the U.K., the series will debut on Sky on November 7.
Ronan Bennett serves as the writer and executive producer, joined by executive producers Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Sam Hoyle, and Sue Naegle, along with director Brian Kirk and Redmayne. Lynch also contributed as a co-executive producer, with Chris Hall as a producer and Frederick Forsyth as a consulting producer.
The cast includes Redmayne, Lynch, and Úrsula Corberó, supported by Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi, and Florisa Kamara.
Produced by Carnival Films, a part of Universal International Studios, the series was celebrated at its U.K. premiere, attended by notable figures including Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios; Gareth Neame; Nigel Marchant; Ronan Bennett; and Universal Studio Group executives Beatrice Springborn and Rob Howard.
