Laurie Metcalf and Eric McCormack have been announced as guest stars for the second season of CBS’s Elsbeth, a mystery spinoff of The Good Wife and The Good Fight. The series stars Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, a detective navigating complex cases.
Metcalf will appear in the eighth episode as Regina Coburn, a police procedural star seeking artistic fulfillment after portraying a tough detective for two decades. Her character becomes embroiled in drama when the showrunner of her long-running series is brutally murdered, making her a prime suspect in the eyes of Elsbeth.
In the ninth episode, McCormack will portray Tom Murphy, the charming founder of Heiwa Zen Center, an upscale wellness retreat. Tom takes matters into his own hands when his empire is threatened by a young man seeking revenge.
Elsbeth is characterized as a police procedural dramedy that typically reveals the murderer at the start of each episode, shifting its focus to how the crime unfolds. The series premiered in February 2024 and has quickly gained traction, launching its second season shortly after the first.
Showrunner Jon Tolins expressed excitement about the new cast additions, stating, “We are incredibly lucky to continue our string of brilliant guest stars on Elsbeth. Everyone on the show works hard to make our set a welcoming place where great actors come to play.”
Metcalf is a four-time Emmy winner known for her roles in Roseanne and Hacks. She currently stars in ABC’s The Connors alongside John Goodman. Recently, she joined Ryan Murphy’s anthology series Monster, where she will play Ed Gein’s mother, Augusta.
Metcalf has also received an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. Her notable film credits include the Toy Story series, Somewhere in Queens, and Scream 2. She is also a two-time Tony Award winner and a founding member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre.
Eric McCormack is best known for his role as Will Truman on NBC’s Will & Grace. He recently completed a run on Broadway in The Cottage. McCormack made his Broadway debut in 2001 with The Music Man and starred in the Tony-nominated production of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man.
On television, McCormack will soon appear in the MGM+ limited series Nine Dead Bodies in a Mexican Morgue. His other credits include The Other Black Girl, Travelers, and Perception.
With these exciting guest stars joining the cast, Season 2 of Elsbeth promises to deliver engaging storylines and captivating performances.
