The highly anticipated Wicked movie adaptation is set to hit theaters in just a few weeks, and fans of the Broadway musical have even more to look forward to: composer Stephen Schwartz will make a cameo in the film.
Schwartz, who wrote the music for both the stage production and the upcoming movie, will appear in a full Ozian costume. A recent magazine feature revealed a screenshot of the composer in character, teasing his role in the film.
Schwartz will portray a palace guard whom Glinda and Elphaba encounter on their way to meet the Wizard. Fans of the musical will recognize the famous line “The Wizard will see you now!” from the song “One Short Day,” and it seems Schwartz will be the one delivering it in the film.
The magazine also hinted at “many cameos” in the upcoming movie, further adding to the excitement for the release.
In addition, Schwartz recently attended a special screening of the Wicked film alongside several past and present actresses who have played roles in the Broadway show. Fans have also spotted a behind-the-scenes clip that appears to feature Kristin Chenoweth, the original Glinda from Broadway. While unconfirmed, the resemblance is striking.
There’s also speculation that Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba, might make an appearance in the movie as well, though that remains to be seen.
The film adaptation of Wicked is shaping up to be a star-studded affair, with plenty of surprises in store for audiences when it premieres.
