Macaulay Culkin, best known for his role in Home Alone, is set to return to the screen in a recurring role for Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout. Variety has confirmed his involvement in the Emmy-nominated series, although details about his character remain under wraps. According to Deadline, Culkin will portray a “crazy genius type.”
Fallout is based on the popular video game franchise and is set two centuries after a nuclear apocalypse. The series follows the inhabitants of luxury fallout shelters who are forced to confront the harsh realities of the irradiated world left behind by their ancestors.
The official synopsis describes this universe as “incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent.”
Culkin’s recent work includes voice acting in The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy and appearances in The Righteous Gemstones and American Horror Story: Double Feature.
He joins a talented cast that includes Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.
Earlier this year, Fallout received 17 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing. It won an Emmy for Outstanding Music Supervision.
The series was created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, who also serve as executive producers and showrunners.
Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are executive producers through Kilter Films, which has an overall deal with Amazon. Todd Howard from Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman from Bethesda Softworks also serve as executive producers. The show is produced by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Kilter Films and Bethesda.
Amazon reported that Fallout attracted 65 million viewers within its first 16 days of release. The first season premiered on April 10, with all episodes available at once. Due to its success, the series was quickly renewed for a second season.
