Andra Day has been cast as Athena in Season 2 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” The announcement was made during a virtual panel at Disney’s D23 Expo in Brazil. Athena is a significant character in Rick Riordan’s book series, known as the goddess of wisdom and the mother of Annabeth Chase, who is portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries.
Day is an accomplished actress and singer. She made her acting debut in the 2021 biopic “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” where she played the lead role. This performance earned her a Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress and an Oscar nomination. In addition to her role in “Percy Jackson,” Day has upcoming films, including “Exhibiting Forgiveness” and “The Deliverance.” Before her acting career, she gained fame as an R&B singer, releasing albums such as “Cheers to the Fall” in 2015 and “Cassandra (Cherith)” in 2024.
In Season 1 of “Percy Jackson,” viewers were introduced to Percy, a 12-year-old demigod discovering his powers. Alongside his friends Annabeth and Grover, played by Aryan Simhadri, Percy embarks on a journey across America to prevent a war among the gods.
