Margot Robbie Reveals How ‘Titanic’ Music Helped Her Cry on ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Set – Until Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio Walked By.
Margot Robbie has shared a surprising secret for triggering tears during her performances—listening to the iconic music from Titanic. In an upcoming episode of the Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast, Robbie revealed that the theme from the 1997 film is her go-to emotional cue.
“I can even just hear the theme music of ‘Titanic,’ and I’ll be bawling,” Robbie said. “So that’s what I do on set if I need to cry in a scene.”
However, one particular moment on the set of The Wolf of Wall Street led to a surreal twist. Robbie recalled a challenging scene in which her character asks for a divorce. “Kate Winslet came to visit set, to visit Leo [DiCaprio] that day,” she said. At the time, Robbie was in a nearby room, listening to the Titanic soundtrack to stay in an emotional state. “I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walk past. It was very surreal.”
This unexpected encounter was made all the more surreal given the connection between Winslet, DiCaprio, and Titanic—the film that became a cultural touchstone after winning 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Winslet, and Best Original Song for Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”
Robbie’s insights into her acting process were shared on the podcast hosted by Ben Mankiewicz of Turner Classic Movies and Warner Bros. Discovery. The podcast, which delves into the personal and professional lives of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers, will return for a second season on November 12. This season will feature comedy legends like Bill Murray, Carol Burnett, Jane Lynch, and J.B. Smoove.
In a statement, Mankiewicz explained the podcast’s premise: “At Talking Pictures, we agree with Groucho Marx’s famous line, ‘Dying is easy; comedy is hard.’ This season, I’ll be sitting down with some of the top comedy actors of their generation to discuss the films that helped shape them.”
Among the surprises in store for listeners is a story from Robbie herself, detailing the movie that gave her the confidence to write Quentin Tarantino a letter, asking to work with him.
