Mac Miller’s unreleased album Balloonerism will officially be released on January 17, 2025, as confirmed by his estate. The announcement came after a teaser was shown at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer, which played between performances by Sampha and Alchemist & Friends, features animated visuals and snippets of songs from the album, including “The Song That Changed Everything,” which reportedly features SZA, and “5 Dollar Pony Rides.” The trailer is now available on YouTube.
Fans can pre-order Balloonerism in various formats, including deluxe vinyl, clear vinyl, CD, and cassette from Miller’s official shop. The estate shared that this album was of great importance to Mac Miller, created around the same time as his mixtape Faces. They noted that he had commissioned artwork for it and frequently discussed its release before prioritizing other projects like GO:OD AM.
The album cover features an image of Miller painted by artist Alim Smith, who shared a similar style piece on Instagram in September 2018. Miller had commented on that post, expressing his desire for the artwork.
Balloonerism has been a topic of speculation among fans since Miller’s passing in 2018. Several tracks believed to be from this album have leaked online over the years. In 2020, songs like “Do You Have a Destination?” and “Uber” surfaced, with some featuring SZA and Dylan Reynolds. Fans have also compiled various unofficial versions of Balloonerism on platforms like SoundCloud.
Miller tragically died from an accidental overdose in 2018. His estate released the posthumous album Circles in 2020, which served as a companion to his final project Swimming. With the upcoming release of Balloonerism, fans are eager to celebrate Miller’s musical legacy once again.
