Fans of Gavin & Stacey can celebrate as the BBC has released a first look image from the highly anticipated reunion special. The image features the show’s main cast: James Corden, Ruth Jones, Matthew Horne, and Joanna Page.
Corden reprises his role as Smithy, while Jones returns as Nessa. Horne plays Gavin and Page portrays Stacey in this special episode. Created by Corden and Jones, Gavin & Stacey first premiered in 2007 and quickly became a beloved series.
The 90-minute special is set to air on Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer. It is written and executive produced by Corden and Jones, with Christine Gernon directing. The logline for the special hints at the story’s developments: “It’s five years since Nessa proposed to Smithy, and a lot has happened since then.”
In Barry, Bryn is busy preparing for a trip to Essex, while Stacey and Gavin are looking for ways to refresh their 17-year marriage.
Meanwhile, Gwen is acting strangely, Nessa has started a new business venture, and Neil the Baby is about to begin an apprenticeship with his father. In Billericay, Pam is feeling overwhelmed at the thought of hosting Christmas dinner, especially with Mick practicing his golf swings indoors. Additionally, Pete and Dawn’s relationship continues to face ups and downs.
This reunion special was produced by Tidy Productions and Fulwell73 for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. The executive producers include Ruth Jones, Rhys John, David Peet from Tidy Productions, and James Corden from Fulwell73. Charlotte Moore, the BBC Chief Content Officer, commissioned the project.
This image marks the first official glimpse of the finale since filming wrapped in October. The cast filmed scenes around Barry Island, where the show originally gained its popularity. Fans are eager to see how the story unfolds after the cliffhanger from the last special in 2019 when Nessa proposed to Smithy.
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on December 25th.
