The highly anticipated film “Bun Tikki,” featuring renowned Indian actors Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman alongside Abhay Deol, will have its world premiere at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2025. The film is produced by Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Studios in collaboration with Stage5 Production.
Directed by Faraz Arif Ansari, making his feature film debut, “Bun Tikki” tells the story of a seven-year-old boy named Shanu and his single father, Sidhant. The narrative explores family dynamics and personal identity as they navigate their challenges. This film marks the second festival appearance for the partnership between Jio Studios and Stage5 Production, following their earlier project “Saali Mohabbat,” which is currently featured at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Stage5 Production, founded by fashion designer Manish Malhotra, produced “Bun Tikki” alongside Jio Studios. The production team includes Malhotra as a producer, along with Jyoti Deshpande, Dinesh Malhotra, and Marijke deSouza. The cast also features Nushrratt Bharuccha and Rohaan Singh. The film delves into themes of parenthood and resilience, focusing on Shanu’s journey of self-discovery while his father copes with grief and societal expectations.
Faraz Arif Ansari expressed his vision for the film, stating, “’Bun Tikki’ is my love letter to the world – to every child, every parent, and everyone who believes in the transformative power of love, empathy, and kindness. I hope it sparks conversations that break barriers and remind us of the kinder world we can create together.” Ansari is known for his previous short films “Sisak” and “Sheer Qorma.”
Producer Manish Malhotra emphasized the importance of the film’s message: “It’s an honor to contribute to a project that challenges conventions and connects with audiences universally. I am proud of Faraz for bringing this vision to life.”
Jyoti Deshpande, president of media and content at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), which oversees Jio Studios, added:

“Bun Tikki” is scheduled to premiere on January 5, 2025.
