Laura Gordon and Tim Griffin have joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming film “Voltron.” They will appear alongside previously announced actors Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Henry Cavill, Rita Ora, John Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, and Tharanya Tharan.
The film is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who co-wrote the script with Ellen Shanman. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, Thurber addressed fans during VoltCon, expressing his commitment to honoring the essence of “Voltron.” He stated, “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to… those iconic elements that you love, that I love.
Producers for “Voltron” include Todd Lieberman from Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber himself, and David Hoberman from Hobie Films. The “Voltron” franchise follows a group of space explorers who operate a giant robot. It originated from several Japanese anime series by Toei Animation and has inspired multiple American adaptations, including Netflix’s “Voltron: Legendary Defender,” which ran for eight seasons.
Tim Griffin is recognized for his roles in series such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Prime Suspect,” “Covert Affairs,” and “Wayward Pines.”
Laura Gordon recently starred in the critically acclaimed film “Late Night with the Devil” alongside David Dastmalchian, which achieved the largest opening weekend ever for an IFC film. She also appeared in MGM+’s series “Hotel Cocaine” and Netflix’s political thriller “Secret City.” Gordon received an AACTA Award nomination for her performance in “Undertow.” Her other credits include “Saw V,” “The Claremont Murders,” “Reckoning,” and “Hunters.”
