South Korean actors Moon Choi and Sukku Son will star in the indie drama Bedford Park, marking the directorial debut of Stephanie Ahn, a writer and editor.
The film centers on a life-altering accident that unites two characters: a Korean American woman torn between her family obligations and her own desires, and a former wrestler struggling to reconcile with his troubled past.
Produced by Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff of Krasnoff/Foster Productions, along with Chris S. Lee of B&C Content and Nina Yang Bongiovi from Significant Productions, Bedford Park is slated to begin production in spring 2025 in New Jersey. The team hopes to showcase the film at major festivals next year.
Bongiovi, who has worked with Forest Whitaker, expressed excitement about Ahn’s vision. “Stephanie embodies a unique perspective as a filmmaker, and it’s her time to shine,” she said. Lee’s B&C Content, based in Seoul and Los Angeles, focuses on connecting Korean talent with Hollywood. The company represents Choi and Son.
“Bedford Park explores themes of identity, resilience, and the sacrifices we make for love,” said Lee. “With Ahn’s direction and the remarkable talent of Moon Choi and Sukku Son, this film promises to resonate with honesty and emotional depth.”
Choi, also known as Hee-seo Choi, is recognized for her role in Bong Joon-ho’s 2017 film Okja and for her work on Korean television and stage productions. Her performances in Anarchist From Colony (2017) and Our Body (2018) earned her critical acclaim.
Son, who starred in the Wachowskis’ Sense8 and Netflix’s A Killer Paradox, gained widespread recognition for his role in the hit Korean action film The Roundup (2022), which grossed over $100 million. He also featured in the popular Netflix series D.P. and earned a Best Actor nomination at the Baek Sang Art Awards for his role in the JTBC drama My Liberation Notes.
Ahn’s career began with work alongside directors like Griffin Dunne and Jonathan Demme, later becoming an editor for films such as The Forgiveness of the Blood and My Old Lady. Her screenplays have earned recognition at prestigious events, including IFP’s Independent Project Forum and the Austin Film Festival.
Foster, known for Sleepless in Seattle and Community, said that finding the right actors for the film was a meticulous process. “When we met Moon Choi, Stephanie and I immediately knew she was the one,” he recalled. “We had been watching Sukku Son for a while, and when he expressed interest, we knew we had hit the jackpot.”
Choi and Son are represented by B&C Content and Stannum. CAA Media Finance is handling the North American distribution rights for the film.
