For the second consecutive year, GLAAD is partnering with Frameline and NewFest to host the “Cheers, Queers” event at the Sundance Film Festival. The celebration, taking place on Friday, January 24, will feature a mix of conversation and entertainment, including a “Trans Stories and Storytelling” panel with director Zackary Drucker (“April & Amanda”) and actor Aud Mason-Hyde (“Jimpa”), as well as a “Raising Our Voices” segment. The event is sponsored by Acura and co-hosted by IMDbPro.
Frameline, GLAAD, and NewFest released a joint statement, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces where queer cinema and creators are celebrated at Sundance. “This event is not just a celebration but a reminder of the transformative power of LGBTQ storytelling to foster connection, inspire change, and elevate the diversity and complexity of our community,” the statement read. “We are proud to unite for the second year in a row in Park City for an afternoon that uplifts queer voices and honors the incredible talent driving these stories forward.”
The 2025 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 23 to February 2 in Park City.
Manila International Film Festival Delays Second Edition Due to Wildfires
The Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) has postponed its second edition, which was originally set for January 30 to February 2. A new date will be announced later this year.
The festival had planned to showcase films at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and host a closing night awards gala at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. However, due to the ongoing wildfires in Southern California, MIFF decided to reschedule the event.
Omen Ortiz, MIFF chairman and co-founder, explained in a statement, “Given the catastrophic wildfires affecting Southern California, we are postponing our second 2025 edition. We are devastated by the impact these wildfires have had on many people, including the Filipino community. As we pray for those affected, we encourage everyone to support the fire relief efforts.” Ortiz also mentioned that MIFF plans to honor frontline workers and Filipino first responders at the rescheduled event.
