Colombian rock icon Juanes has joined forces with rising reggaeton star Ryan Castro for their first-ever collaboration, “El Chucu Chucu.” The lively and festive single is a tribute to the holiday traditions of the Antioquia region, where both artists’ roots lie.
Every year, Ryan Castro releases a special holiday track, often featuring his alter ego, “Richy,” in the visuals. This year, Richy is accompanied by his cousin, “Toño,” played by Juanes. According to a press release, the collaboration was born out of their shared desire to create an anthem that celebrates family, music, and cultural heritage.
Juanes expressed his excitement about the project, reflecting on the influence of the traditional “chucuchucu” sound. “In 1967, Pedro Jairo Garcés released his album Playa Brisa y Mar, a classic of the chucuchucu paisa style. I’m thrilled that so many years later, we’re bringing this genre back for people to dance to,” said Juanes. He also thanked Castro for the opportunity to help revive this beloved Christmas tradition.
Ryan Castro, known for his annual festive anthems, including “Mujeriego” (2021), “El Pan de Estefanía,” and “La Garrafa” (2022), shared his enthusiasm about working with Juanes. “It’s a dream come true to collaborate with Juanes,” said Castro. “His music has been part of my life since I was a child, and now we’re creating something special that honors our Christmas traditions. ¡Que viva Colombia!”
Recently, Ryan Castro wrapped up his successful “¡Ay Bendito Ghetto!” tour across the United States, which he co-headlined with Blessd. The tour, produced by Zamora Live, covered 16 cities, sold out 13 shows, and has now expanded to include Latin America and Spain.
