Peso Pluma has dropped his latest single, “Gervonta,” marking a return to the música Mexicana sound that launched his career. Released on Thursday, the track blends bold rapping with a mix of guitars and trumpets, showcasing Pluma’s signature style. In the song, the 24-year-old artist compares his fast-paced, larger-than-life lifestyle to infamous figures like Al Capone, calling himself a “fish in the ocean.”
The title of the song is a tribute to Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the American professional boxer known for his dominance in the ring. Boxing has long been a theme in Pluma’s music, with his name, “Peso Pluma” (meaning featherweight), drawing further connections to the sport. The artist has often referenced figures like WWE legend Ric Flair as sources of inspiration. Pluma previously shared in an interview with Variety how Flair’s luxurious persona and swagger influenced him, particularly in his track “Ice.”
“Gervonta” marks Peso Pluma’s first solo release since his successful double album Éxodo, which dropped this summer. The album has already achieved major success, topping global streaming charts on Spotify and reaching No. 5 on the Billboard 200. It features collaborations with artists like Cardi B, Anitta, Quavo, and Kenia Os, and has been nominated for a Grammy at the 2025 awards.
Pluma’s global popularity has skyrocketed, with Spotify naming him the seventh most-streamed artist worldwide, alongside stars like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny. To support Éxodo, Peso Pluma completed a North American tour, performing over 35 shows in major cities including New York, Miami, Dallas, Las Vegas, and San Diego. The tour, produced by Live Nation, wrapped up earlier this October.
With “Gervonta,” Peso Pluma continues to solidify his place as a leading force in Latin music, blending his unique style with his love for wrestling and boxing culture.
