Exclusive: A fresh take on the beloved classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is in the works, with Eon Productions and Amazon MGM Studios teaming up for a reimagined film adaptation. The project, currently in its early stages, will see the return of the iconic flying car and its magical adventures. Sources say that the development team is already in talks with potential writers and directors for the film.
This new version is planned for a theatrical release, continuing the successful partnership between Eon Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, which has previously been involved in the James Bond franchise.
Originally written by James Bond author Ian Fleming in the 1960s, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car was adapted for the big screen in 1968. The movie starred Dick Van Dyke, was directed by Ken Hughes, and produced by Cubby Broccoli. The film featured a memorable score, including the Oscar-nominated title song by the Sherman Brothers, Robert and Richard.
In addition to the film, a stage musical adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang premiered in London in 2002, with Dana Broccoli serving as one of its producers. The stage production, which included six new songs by the Sherman Brothers, later made its Broadway debut in 2005 and is currently on tour in the UK.
As the film adaptation begins to take shape, fans of the magical car and its timeless adventures can look forward to a new version of this family favorite.
