Universal Music Group (UMG) has launched its first major music label in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), marking a significant milestone for the music industry. This move positions the GBA as a key center for musical innovation and cultural exchange. As the first major label to establish a dedicated division in this economically dynamic and culturally diverse region, Universal Music aims to tap into the area’s potential for both local and international musical growth.
The new division, Universal Music China Greater Bay Area (UMCGBA), represents a strategic expansion into a region known for its vibrant market and unique cultural atmosphere. “We are excited to discover and collaborate with the incredible talent in this region as we work to shape the next chapter of Chinese pop music,” said Timothy Xu, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Greater China. “Our goal is to transform the GBA into a global hub of creativity, energy, and innovation, producing fresh musical expressions and entertainment experiences.”
Adam Granite, Executive Vice President for Market Development at UMG, also expressed the company’s commitment to supporting local music scenes and bringing Chinese music to a wider global audience. “UMCGBA is more than just an expansion—it is a bold step in redefining the music landscape in China and worldwide,” Granite said. The initiative aims to have a lasting impact by fostering deep cultural integration and innovative approaches to the music business.
