Actor Mason Gooding is set to return for Scream 7, reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in the upcoming installment of the iconic horror franchise. Sources confirm that Gooding will once again join the slasher series, while his co-star Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays Chad’s sister Mindy, has yet to officially sign on.
Gooding’s return comes after a series of production delays, creative changes, and cast shakeups. In March, he addressed the challenges surrounding the film’s development, expressing optimism for its future. “If it could make money, I guarantee they’re making it,” Gooding said at the time. “It’s all about delivering the best movie for the fans. Scream doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy it.”
Neve Campbell, who skipped Scream 6 over a salary dispute, confirmed her return for Scream 7. Alongside Campbell’s comeback, the film will mark a significant change behind the camera: Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream in 1996, will make his directorial debut with the franchise. Williamson takes over after Christopher Landon exited the project.
While Courteney Cox has expressed interest in returning as Gale Weathers, her participation has yet to be officially confirmed. New cast members include Isabel May, who will portray the daughter of Neve Campbell’s character, Sidney Prescott, as well as McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Asa Germann.
Gooding, who stars alongside Olivia Holt in the upcoming horror film Heart Eyes (set for release on February 7), can currently be seen in the disaster comedy Y2K, directed by Kyle Mooney.
Notably, Scream 7 will proceed without Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, both of whom starred in the first two films of the Scream reboot. Barrera was dismissed from the film last year following controversial social media posts about Israel. Ortega, meanwhile, was reportedly unavailable due to her commitment to Netflix’s Wednesday.
Scream 7 is scheduled for release in theaters on February 27, 2026, with Paramount Pictures distributing the film and Spyglass Media producing.
The Scream franchise, known for its blend of horror and meta-humor, has earned a significant place in pop culture. It began with the 1996 hit Scream, followed by Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011), all directed by the late Wes Craven. The series was relaunched with Scream (2022), and the most recent entry, Scream VI, became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, with over $108 million in domestic earnings and $169 million globally. To date, the Scream franchise has grossed over $900 million worldwide.
