Universal Pictures has announced that Vanessa Caswill will direct Reminders of Him, the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling romance novel.
Caswill, known for her work on Netflix’s 2023 romantic comedy Love at First Sight, starring Haley Lu Richardson, brings a strong resume to the project. She has also directed two notable BBC miniseries: the 2017 adaptation of Little Women, featuring Maya Hawke, Emily Watson, Michael Gambon, and Angela Lansbury, and the 2016 drama Thirteen, starring Jodie Comer.
Reminders of Him tells the story of Kenna Rowan, a woman who returns to her hometown after serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake. Desperate to reconnect with her young daughter, Kenna faces resistance from everyone around her, with the community determined to keep them apart. The only person who doesn’t shun her is Ledger Ward, the local bar owner, who becomes a key figure in her journey. The novel, published in 2022, has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 45 languages. In a statement last October, Hoover reflected on the impact of Kenna’s story, saying, “I hear from many readers who tell me they found something of themselves in [Kenna Rowan’s] story of living with and through tragedy and doing the often messy and imperfect work of healing and turning the page to a fresh chapter in life.”
The film is slated for release on February 13, 2026, just ahead of Valentine’s Day. While casting details have not yet been revealed, anticipation for the film is building, especially given Hoover’s rising profile in Hollywood.
Reminders of Him is the latest of Hoover’s novels to be adapted for the screen. Her best-selling book It Ends With Us was recently turned into a film by Sony Pictures, earning a surprise success with $344 million at the global box office on a $25 million budget. Additionally, Verity, another of Hoover’s novels, is being adapted by Amazon MGM, with Anne Hathaway set to star in the lead role.
