Dan Abrams, a key figure in the primetime lineup of Nexstar Media’s NewsNation, has announced he will leave the network’s 9 p.m. program, Dan Abrams Live, in early 2024.
Abrams shared the news with viewers on Thursday, citing increasing business obligations that would prevent him from continuing with the show. “I’ve reached the point where it’s impossible to keep devoting the time needed for this show while also running and growing my other businesses,” he said at the conclusion of his broadcast.
In addition to his role at NewsNation, Abrams oversees several other ventures, including Mediaite, a media industry-focused site, and Bottle Raiders, a spirits review platform. He also hosts a program for SiriusXM, operates the Law & Crime Network, and contributes legal analysis to ABC News. Despite his deep commitment to Dan Abrams Live, he acknowledged that balancing these responsibilities with the demands of a nightly primetime show had become unfeasible.
“I devote far more of my time to this show than anything else, and as hard as it is for me to admit, it’s just not practical to do this show all week while also running, and expanding, my businesses,” Abrams explained.
The media entrepreneur, who joined NewsNation in 2021, signed a multi-year deal with the network in 2023. His program initially aired at 8 p.m. before shifting to the 9 p.m. time slot to make room for Chris Cuomo’s show.
NewsNation, which also features anchors like Chris Cuomo, Elizabeth Vargas, Leland Vittert, and Ashleigh Banfield, has not yet announced a replacement for Abrams. He is expected to continue hosting the program through February 2024 before his departure. Abrams is expected to remain with the network as a contributor after he leaves the primetime slot.
