Mariah Carey, the undisputed “Queen of Christmas,” helped kick off Netflix’s inaugural NFL Christmas Gameday with a festive performance of her classic holiday song, All I Want for Christmas Is You. The pre-recorded performance aired ahead of the day’s first two games, setting the tone for a special Christmas football event.
Carey’s rendition of the beloved song was broadcast just before the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET. The pop superstar wasn’t the only major performer of the day: Beyoncé, performing in her hometown of Houston, also took center stage during the Ravens-Texans halftime show.
As for the game action, the Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, entered their Christmas Day matchup with an impressive 14-1 record, far surpassing the Steelers’ 10-4. Kansas City proved their dominance, defeating Pittsburgh 29-10 to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC. With the victory, the Chiefs earned a bye week and set their sights on becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You continues to dominate the charts. On December 9, it marked its 15th cumulative week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, in addition to reclaiming the top spot on the Billboard Holiday 100 chart. Carey’s appearance at NFL Christmas Gameday follows the successful conclusion of her holiday tour, which wrapped up with a snow-covered performance in Brooklyn earlier this week.
