Adam Sandler is back in action on the golf course in the first teaser for Happy Gilmore 2, nearly 29 years after the original film made him a comedy icon.
Released early on Christmas Day, the teaser was shared by both Netflix and Sandler, coinciding with the streamer’s live broadcast of two NFL games—its first-ever sports livestream. The sequel, set to premiere on Netflix in 2025, brings Sandler back as Happy Gilmore, the unconventional golfer with a short temper.
In the teaser, Happy’s journey continues, alongside familiar faces and new additions. Julie Bowen reprises her role as Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest, while Christopher McDonald returns as his longtime rival, Shooter McGavin. Newcomers include Latin music sensation Bad Bunny, The Substance star Margaret Qualley, comedian Nick Swardson (a frequent Sandler collaborator), NFL star Travis Kelce, rapper Kid Cudi (Scott Mescudi), and filmmaker Benny Safdie, who previously worked with Sandler in Uncut Gems.
The sequel is directed by Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on Murder Mystery, which also starred Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Tim Herlihy, who co-wrote the original, returns as a screenwriter. Dennis Dugan, who directed the first film, serves as an executive producer, with Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds producing.
In Happy Gilmore, Sandler’s character—a former hockey player with anger management issues—enters the world of professional golf to win a prize large enough to pay off his grandmother’s back taxes. Along the way, he embarks on a series of comedic adventures, including a memorable fistfight with The Price Is Right host Bob Barker.
Fans of the original can expect more laughs and antics as the beloved character returns for a new chapter in the quirky golf world.
