Peacock is bringing Grimm back to life, but this time as a movie.
The streaming platform is developing a feature-length reboot of the popular fantasy cop drama, which originally aired on NBC for six seasons from 2011 to 2017. This news has been confirmed by Variety.
Josh Berman, known for creating Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime, is writing the screenplay for the Grimm movie. He will also serve as an executive producer alongside the original showrunners, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, as well as original executive producers Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. The movie is being produced by Milliner’s Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television.
Details about the plot and cast remain tightly under wraps. The original Grimm series starred David Giuntoli as Portland Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt. Nick discovers he is a “Grimm,” a guardian responsible for maintaining the balance between humans and Wesen, mythological creatures. Throughout the series, Nick faces dangerous foes, with the help of his Wesen friend Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and his partner Detective Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby).
The main cast also included Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee, Bree Turner, and Claire Coffee. Recurring cast members included Danny Bruno, Jacqueline Toboni, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Damien Puckler.
This isn’t the first time NBC has tried to revive Grimm. In 2018, the network announced a spinoff of the series, which was set to be written and produced by Melissa Glenn, with much of the original creative team involved. The spinoff was meant to expand on the mythology of the original show and feature both returning characters and new ones. However, it never advanced beyond development.
