The Aspen Music Festival and School is set to showcase world-class talent during its 2025 Winter Music Series at the acoustically acclaimed 500-seat Harris Concert Hall. The season kicks off on Friday, February 7, with renowned Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky, who will perform a program featuring works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Wagner.
Lugansky, celebrated for his musical sensitivity and technical mastery, returns to Aspen for the first time since 2019. His performance will include pieces from his recently released album, Richard Wagner: Famous Opera Scenes, along with a piano arrangement of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, a highlight of the evening. Critics have praised his work for its ability to evoke Wagner’s orchestral grandeur, earning him widespread acclaim.
The Winter Music Series continues on Thursday, March 6, with the Grammy-winning Takács String Quartet. Recognized for their captivating performances, the quartet will present Beethoven’s Op. 18 and Op. 135 String Quartets, as well as Bartók’s String Quartet No. 3. This concert offers a unique blend of Beethoven’s lyrical elegance and Bartók’s bold, dynamic rhythms, creating an evening of intense emotion and remarkable musicianship.
The season concludes on Thursday, March 20, with a performance by internationally celebrated pianist Garrick Ohlsson. Following a highly successful summer 2024 appearance, Ohlsson will return to Aspen for a solo recital that will showcase works by Schubert, Skryabin, and Chopin. Known for his “incredible technique” and “razor-sharp accuracy,” as praised by The Seattle Times, Ohlsson’s performance promises a masterful display of his technical brilliance and emotional depth.
Subscriptions for the Winter Music Recital Series will be available starting January 8, 2025, with single tickets going on sale January 15, 2025. All performances will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Harris Concert Hall, and tickets will be sold through the Aspen Music Festival and School Box Office.
