In a notable development, the character portrayed by Akshay Kumar in OMG 2 has been changed from Shiva to the Messenger of God, infusing the narrative with spiritual depth. The sequel to the movie ‘OMG: Oh My God,’ featuring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar, initially had Akshay set to essay the role of Shiva. However, the setting of the film was shifted from Ujjain to a fictional location, as reported by Bollywood Hungama.
OMG 2 underwent various changes during the censoring process before its release, with 13 minutes of the movie being edited out. The alterations included the removal of a poster displaying the ‘Mood X’ condom from a billboard and the word ‘rat’ from a bottle of rat poison. Additionally, references to sacred religious elements such as Shivling, Shri Bhagavad Gita, Upanishad, Atharvaved, Draupadi, Pandav, Krishna, Gopiyan, and Raas Leela were omitted from an essential dialogue.
Crucial censoring measures were implemented to ensure compliance with guidelines. Frontal nudity visuals were gracefully replaced with appropriate depictions of Naga Sadhus, adhering to the prescribed norms. The beginning of the film was modified, accompanied by a voiceover to enhance the storytelling experience as per the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) directives.
Various dialogues underwent editing, including one at a temple announcement regarding women, which was deemed inappropriate and removed. The school name was changed to ‘Savoday,’ and references to alcohol were axed. A dialogue concerning the High Court was also removed for being considered “vulgar and defamatory.” Scenes depicting Akshay Kumar’s character meditating and bathing were replaced, along with modified portrayals of the character being drunk.
In line with the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), explicit visuals of a boy engaged in a sexual act in a viral video were significantly toned down to meet appropriate standards.
To comply with CBFC guidelines, filmmakers were requested to provide authentic documentary evidence supporting the facts and statistics mentioned in the film concerning sexual acts. The changes were made to ensure the film adheres to the prescribed guidelines and maintains sensitivity towards religious sentiments and other sensitive themes.
