The Weeknd has shared high praise for Jenna Ortega’s performance in the upcoming psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film is based on The Weeknd’s album, with the singer not only co-writing the script but also starring in the film.
In an interview, The Weeknd spoke about Ortega’s ability to bring depth to her character, especially in one particular scene that was challenging for both him and the director. Initially unsure how it would translate on screen, the duo was impressed by Ortega’s effortless leadership in the scene.
“The scene was difficult. Trey and I looked at each other thinking, ‘How is this going to work? It seems so ridiculous on paper,'” The Weeknd recalled. “But Jenna brought so much depth to the character. She took charge of the entire scene — none of it was rehearsed. Many of my reactions were completely genuine,” he explained.
Ortega, who gained widespread recognition from Netflix’s Wednesday, expressed her gratitude for her success, attributing it to God’s guidance. She also complimented The Weeknd, calling him sweet and accommodating during filming.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is set to release on May 16, 2025.
