The first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, was released on Tuesday, providing fans with a glimpse of the iconic superhero family as they make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film, which pays homage to the Fantastic Four’s 1960s origins, is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
In this retrofuturistic adventure, a team of astronauts gains extraordinary abilities after being exposed to cosmic rays. The cast features Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing.
Directed by Matt Shakman, known for his work on WandaVision, the film also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, along with Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles in various roles. The trailer showcases the team’s dynamics, including a family dinner scene where Sue emphasizes their unity: “Whatever life throws at us, we’ll face it together. As a family.”
The plot centers around the team’s battle against the formidable Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson, who threatens to consume Earth.
The trailer hints at thrilling action sequences featuring their advanced vehicle, the Fantasticar, and their robotic companion H.E.R.B.I.E.
Originally introduced in Marvel Comics in November 1961, the Fantastic Four have been adapted for film multiple times before. This marks the fourth major cinematic adaptation following the 2005 and 2007 films and a poorly received reboot in 2015. With its unique setting and fresh take on the characters, The Fantastic Four: First Steps aims to reinvigorate interest in Marvel’s First Family.
