SZA is adding new songs to her deluxe album Lana, the extended version of her hugely successful sophomore release SOS. The singer, who will perform alongside Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, announced that the new tracks will be available on February 9 at 7 p.m. ET—just 30 minutes after the game begins.
Originally, SZA had planned to release the updated version of Lana on January 6, but that date passed without the drop. In response to a fan calling her “unprofessional” on social media, she explained, “Cause sample clearances always happen within the preferred time frame lmao? I should’ve NEVER tried to give y’all what you asked for. It wasn’t professional. It was KINDNESS AND A WILLINGNESS TO APPEASE y’all lunatics.”
The journey to release Lana has been a long one. SZA first teased the deluxe edition in December 2022, offering fans glimpses of new tracks over the following years. However, she faced setbacks, including when a few songs were leaked online, prompting her to scrap the project. In March 2024, she addressed the leaks on Twitter: “Y’all leaked 3 songs from the deluxe. At this point, y’all can keep the throwaways and leaks. I’ll be starting LANA from scratch—do not ask me about it again.”
Despite the delays, SZA eventually released the 15-track SOS extension at the end of 2024. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 178,000 units, and has amassed over 200 million streams.
