The Weeknd’s new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning an impressive 490,500 equivalent album units. This marks the biggest opening week of 2025 and the largest debut since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department reached No. 1 in May 2024, with 2.61 million units.
This achievement also represents the Weeknd’s highest sales week across his five full-length albums, surpassing his previous record set by After Hours by 6,000 units. According to data from Luminate, Hurry Up Tomorrow sold 359,000 physical copies, with an additional 171.5 million official on-demand streams of its songs.
The 22-track album features collaborations with prominent artists and producers, including legendary producer Giorgio Moroder, known for his work with Donna Summer on classic disco hits like “I Feel Love.”
Other special guests include Anitta, Justice, Travis Scott, Florence + the Machine, Future, Lana Del Rey, and Playboi Carti.
In addition to the album, Hurry Up Tomorrow will be adapted into a suspense thriller film, produced by Lionsgate and directed by Trey Edward Shults. The film, which stars the Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, will be released on May 16. It will feature music from the new album.
In a recent interview with Variety, the Weeknd reflected on his earlier statements about retiring his stage name. He explained that while he may retire the persona of the Weeknd, he remains passionate about music and constantly seeks new challenges. “No one’s gonna do the Weeknd better than me, and I’m not gonna do it better than what it is right now,” he said. “That’s why I’m really excited about this film, because I love this challenge.”
