Lucy Hale, best known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, will star in the upcoming romantic comedy Princess, written by Frank Hannah, the screenwriter behind The Cooler.
The film, which is set to begin principal photography in Ireland in spring 2025, follows a woman who falls for the man of her dreams. However, she must first navigate the challenges posed by his bulldog, Princess, who has a reputation for sabotaging any relationship her owner pursues. The film promises a comedic tone similar to that of Monster-in-Law.
Daniel Baur’s K5 International has joined the project as its international sales agent and will begin sales at the Berlinale European Film Market.
Hale’s career has flourished since her breakout role on Pretty Little Liars. She has since appeared in romantic comedies like Which Brings Me to You, The Hating Game, and Fantasy Island. She is also set to star in the upcoming action comedy F** Marry Kill*, scheduled for release in March 2025 by Lionsgate and BuzzFeed Studios.
The film will mark the feature directorial debut of Shauna Duggins, a two-time Emmy-winning stunt coordinator. Duggins, known for her work on 9-1-1, Yes Day!, and The Lincoln Lawyer, has previously worked on numerous high-profile productions, including Deadpool & Wolverine. Duggins made history as the first woman to win an Emmy for outstanding stunt coordination and earned a SAG award for her work on GLOW.
Duggins expressed her excitement about working with Hale: “Lucy Hale is one of the most dynamic and versatile actresses of her generation, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with her on this wildly fun and unpredictable adventure. I can’t wait to explore our comedic choreography as she takes on the ultimate challenge – outlasting and outwitting her canine adversary!”
The film is produced by Christopher Tuffin of Strong Island, who also conceived the story, along with Emmy nominee Renee Tab of Sentient, Amanda Delaplaine, and Ari Novak. Tuffin shared his enthusiasm for the project: “I began my career in comedy working with legends like the Farrelly Brothers, Ben Stiller, and Jerry Lewis, so Princess feels like a natural evolution for me. Combining physical comedy with Shauna Duggins’ expertise only amplifies its comedic potential.”
Executive producers include Julie Kroll, Nadezda Motina, Aram Ovannisyan, Sophie Delaplaine, and Baur. Todd Slater and Brandon Evans from Brick Lane will also serve as executive producers and oversee production in Ireland.
K5 International, which is handling international sales, also represents films such as the Mafia-JFK assassination drama November 1963, directed by Roland Joffé, and The Butler, starring Jean Reno. Last year, K5 was re-launched with Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga.
