Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new TV series starring Taylor Lautner, the actor best known for his role as Jacob Black in the Twilight saga. Lautner is set to star in and executive produce Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, a self-aware scripted series that blends supernatural adventure with humor.
The project, currently in development, comes from Tornante, the studio behind BoJack Horseman and Undone on Amazon. Daisy Gardner, who is known for her work on Single Drunk Female, is attached as creator and showrunner. The series will be directed and executive produced by Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, with Adam Londy and Tarik Kanafani also serving as executive producers.
According to the official logline, the series explores the imagined life of Lautner after the Twilight franchise. After the final film’s release, Lautner seemingly disappeared from the public eye. Fans and tabloids speculated about his absence, but the truth was far stranger than anyone realized. Instead of retreating for a mental health break, Lautner was training to become a werewolf hunter.
The series follows Lautner as he plays a fictionalized version of himself, drawn into a secret society of werewolf trackers. As a supernatural warrior by night and a Hollywood actor by day, Lautner must confront the irony of fighting the creatures that made him famous. Along the way, he must balance his double life, revive his career, and navigate personal challenges, including romance and the possibility of saving the world.
Lautner’s fans are likely to enjoy this return to the werewolf world. The actor first gained fame for portraying Jacob Black, a shape-shifting werewolf in the Twilight series. The five films of the franchise grossed more than $3 billion worldwide.
Outside of Twilight, Lautner has appeared in films such as The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Abduction, and The Ridiculous 6. On television, he has had roles in Scream Queens, Cuckoo, and My Own Worst Enemy.
Gardner, the showrunner, has an extensive background in TV, having written for 30 Rock, Silicon Valley, and Modern Family, among others. Radio Silence’s recent projects include Scream VI and the horror-comedy Ready or Not.
Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Tornante. Lautner is represented by Untitled Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson, while Gardner is repped by WME and 42. Radio Silence is represented by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
