The 6th annual Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) Awards recognized standout achievements in music, with Kris Bowers, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross leading the pack.
Reznor and Ross took home the prestigious award for Outstanding Original Song for their track “Compress/Repress” from Challengers. Ross also earned an additional honor for his work on the series Shogun.
Daniel Blumberg won the award for Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film for his work on The Brutalist. Diane Warren claimed top honors with her song “The Journey,” marking her third win at the SCL Awards.
The Spirit of Collaboration Award was presented to composer Harry Gregson-Williams and director Ridley Scott, recognizing their longstanding partnership on films such as Gladiator II, The Martian, and Kingdom of Heaven. Past recipients of this award include celebrated collaborators like Thomas Newman and Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee, and Carter Burwell and the Coen Brothers.
The awards ceremony took place at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, where SCL President Ashley Irwin took a moment to reflect on recent hardships. In his speech, Irwin acknowledged the devastating fires that had affected Los Angeles and the close-knit SCL community. He highlighted the spirit of resilience and hope that continues to thrive within the industry, despite the challenges.
“As we celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of our colleagues, we also recognize the broader context of hardship and loss,” Irwin said. “The fires have left a lasting impact on our city and its people, but in this adversity, we find strength and inspiration. This year’s awards not only honor personal achievements, but also the resilience and unity that defines us as a community.”
