Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds made their first red carpet appearance together in months at the “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” in New York City on Sunday. The event marked the couple’s first joint appearance amid their ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni. While Reynolds had a brief public outing last month at the National Board of Review awards to present an award to Wicked, Lively has largely stayed out of the public eye due to the legal drama surrounding her and Baldoni, her co-star and director in It Ends With Us.
The legal feud began in December 2024 when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her. Lively claimed the tension on set escalated when Baldoni allegedly worked with his public relations team to damage her reputation. Bryan Freedman, representing Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, dismissed Lively’s accusations, calling them “shameful” and “categorically false.” The legal documents Lively filed included texts and emails that seemed to show Baldoni’s PR team strategizing to discredit her amid rumors of an on-set dispute.
The lawsuits have escalated, with both Lively and Baldoni filing legal complaints against each other. Baldoni also filed a defamation suit against The New York Times over its original coverage of Lively’s accusations. In addition, Baldoni is taking legal action against Lively and Reynolds, citing the portrayal of the Nicepool character in Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine as an act of “mocking, harassing, ridiculing, intimidating, or bullying” him.
As for the “SNL50: The Anniversary Special,” it is unclear whether Lively and Reynolds will be part of the live telecast or if they are simply attending as guests. The special will air on NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. ET.
Other celebrity guests expected to appear include Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, Dave Chappelle, Kim Kardashian, Martin Short, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and many more.
