Following its star-studded 50th anniversary celebration, Saturday Night Live (SNL) will return in March with two back-to-back episodes.
On March 1, comedian Shane Gillis will host for the second time, with Tate McRae as the musical guest. This marks McRae’s second appearance on the show as well.
The following week, Lady Gaga will make her return on March 8, taking on dual roles as both host and musical guest. This will be her second time hosting, and she has previously appeared as the musical guest four times.
Gillis is preparing for the return of his Netflix comedy series, Tires, which is set to debut its second season in 2025. McRae, on the other hand, will release her third album, So Close to What, on February 21. Lady Gaga, fresh off her performance at the SNL concert at Radio City Music Hall, will drop her next album, Mayhem, on March 7. Additionally, the 14-time Grammy winner is set to headline Coachella in April.
Meanwhile, the anniversary special SNL50: The Anniversary Special aired on February 16, drawing an impressive 14.8 million viewers on NBC—marking the network’s highest-rated entertainment telecast in five years, excluding news and sports. The special showcased appearances from major stars like Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler, along with iconic sketches such as “Black Jeopardy,” “Close Encounter,” and “Scared Straight.” Steve Martin also delivered a memorable monologue.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, SNL went all out with several events. These included a “Homecoming Concert” livestreamed on Peacock from Radio City Music Hall, featuring performances by Cher, Jack White, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone with surviving members of Nirvana. A four-part docuseries directed by Morgan Neville looked back at the show’s rich history, while Questlove’s three-hour documentary explored its musical legacy. Fans could also experience an immersive SNL exhibit at Rockefeller Center, where they could step into the shoes of a show host.
