Netflix has announced the production of a new Korean romantic comedy, “Boyfriend on Demand” (working title), starring Jisoo of Blackpink and actor Seo In-guk, known for his roles in “Doom at Your Service” and “Café Minamdang.”
The series follows an overworked webtoon producer who finds love through a subscription-based virtual reality dating program. Jisoo will portray Seo Mi-rae, a focused creative who unexpectedly enters the world of virtual romance after receiving a “Monthly Boyfriend” device that allows her to date flawless virtual suitors.
Seo In-guk will play Park Kyeong-nam, a rival webtoon producer whose cold exterior hides a more complicated personality. His dynamic with Mi-rae promises to add an intriguing layer to the workplace romance plot.
Directed by Kim Jung-sik, whose previous works include the comedy-drama “Work Later, Drink Now” and the romantic comedy “No Gain No Love,” the series is expected to balance its futuristic setting with heartfelt emotional storytelling. Kim’s expertise suggests the show will offer both humor and depth.
“Boyfriend on Demand” continues Netflix’s push into Korean content, following a string of successful romance series. Earlier this month, Netflix unveiled its upcoming 2025 lineup.
This series marks Jisoo’s latest acting project following her roles in Disney+ and JTBC’s “Snowdrop” and the newly released Prime Video series “Newtopia,” where she plays Kang Young-joo, a woman navigating career challenges while trying to reunite with her boyfriend during a zombie outbreak in Seoul.
In January, Jisoo signed a global label deal with Warner Records in anticipation of her debut solo mini album, “Amortage,” released on February 14.
