Keith Urban has been announced as the headliner for “The Road,” an upcoming singing competition series on CBS. Set to premiere this fall, the show will challenge emerging musicians to perform live in front of audiences, testing their stage presence and musical skills.
The series will follow Urban as he performs across Texas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Contestants will have the chance to open for Urban at each venue, with the audience deciding which artists will continue on the tour.
Urban shared his excitement about the project, saying, “I spent much of my youth playing in some rough pubs, sometimes for just the bartender. That’s why I love the concept of putting artists in real-world situations to see if they truly have what it takes.” He continued, “Paying your dues can be tough, but there are lessons in this business that can’t be taught, like how to create the perfect setlist, decide when to extend or shorten a song, and connect with the crowd.”
The series is being executive produced by Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, David Glasser, and Lee Metzger.
Urban’s special performances on the show will be free to attend, with tickets available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The tour will stop at various venues, including Tannahill’s Tavern and Music Hall in Fort Worth on March 2, The Factory in Dallas on March 5, Oklahoma Ranch in Oklahoma City on March 9, Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa on March 12, Minglewood Hall in Memphis on March 24, Marathon Music Works in Nashville on March 28, and the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on April 2.
Urban closed by reflecting on his career, stating, “For me, touring has always been my first love. It’s where everything truly happens. It’s the only path to take if you want to become a real performer.”
