The Season 2 finale of AMC’s “Mayfair Witches” left viewers reeling with its dramatic and deadly conclusion. The episode, titled “The Innocents,” saw Rowan Mayfair, played by Alexandra Daddario, confront her Scottish relatives in a battle to save the life of Lasher, a powerful Taltos and her son, from being sacrificed for his magical blood.
The Plot Unfolds
The story began with Lasher’s union with Emaleth, a deity, which was prophesied to produce children with enhanced magical abilities. However, the Scottish Mayfairs had sinister plans to slaughter these children and use their blood to empower their own family. Rowan, determined to stop this, embarked on a rescue mission with her cousin Moira, love interest Lark, and others.
The Turning Point
Despite Rowan’s efforts, Lasher was ultimately killed by Julien, who had taken over Cortland’s body. However, Rowan’s grief triggered her growing powers, briefly resurrecting Lasher. Together, they fought against their relatives, managing to save the children with the help of Ciprien and the Talamasca. In the end, Rowan consumed a chalice of blood, granting her immense power.
Daddario’s Insights
Daddario reflected on Rowan’s character, noting that despite her desire to help others, the temptation of real power is hard to resist. “She walks around saying she doesn’t want any of this, and she just wants to help everyone and be such a great person,” Daddario explained. “But when you are actually tempted with having real power, I think it is hard to reject — and it is hard for Rowan to reject.”
Alexandra Daddario on the Role
Daddario expressed her excitement about being part of the Anne Rice Immortal Universe and the challenge of portraying Rowan, a character who embodies both light and darkness. She noted that Lasher’s character, played by Jack Huston, is like a forbidden love interest, drawing Rowan in despite the danger.
The finale’s events have left fans eager for more, wondering how Rowan will navigate her newfound abilities and the looming threats from her family and beyond.
