The highly anticipated series adaptation of Judy Blume’s iconic 1975 novel Forever will debut on Netflix on Thursday, May 8.
Mara Brock Akil, the showrunner and creator of the series, brings a fresh perspective to Blume’s original story. The plot centers on two teenagers navigating their first romantic relationship and the journey of losing their virginity. Set in Los Angeles in 2018, the show explores the emotional complexities of being each other’s first love, with a unique focus on identity and romance for two Black teens.
The cast includes Lovie Simone, Michael Cooper Jr., Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Marvin Winans III, Xosha Roquemore, Niles Fitch, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Xavier Mills, E’myri Crutchfield, Adriyan Rae, and Paigion Walker. The series is executive produced by Akil, along with Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Sara White, Erika Harrison, Regina King, Reina King, Anthony Hemingway, and Shana C. Waterman.
In other news, Alert: Missing Persons Unit has released a trailer for its third season, which premieres on March 25 on Fox. This season will follow the MPU as they search for a member of their own police department. The procedural drama, set in Philadelphia, stars Scott Caan, Dania Ramirez, Ryan Broussard, Adeola Role, Diana Bang, Ian Tracey, and Alisha-Marie Ahamed.
New to the cast this season is Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who will portray Chief Inspector Bill Houston in a recurring role, adding a paternal dynamic to the MPU team.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment. The showrunner is Carla Kettner, who also serves as an executive producer, alongside Jon Cowan, Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, Sean Hennen, John Eisendrath, and Brad Turner.
